Dutchmen cruise to second-round of sectionals

GUILDERLAND –– The Dutchmen basketball team is moving on to face Bishop Maginn after a 75-to-56 first-round win over Troy on Wednesday night in the Class AA sectionals.

Jon Terry was a force down low for the Dutch, scoring 36 points. Kevin Kost had 16 points and Pat Quinn added 10 more. Dave Anderson had 16 points for Troy in the losing effort.

“We didn’t come out of the gate too well,” said Terry. “We were down by four after the first quarter, but the game was tied at 34 at halftime. We pulled away in the second half with a lot of fast-break points.”

Guilderland Head Coach Ron Osinski told The Enterprise that Troy threw everything at the Dutch in the first half. “We were all energized at the beginning of the game, but we didn’t know much about Troy,” he said.

“I changed the defense and the offense around a little bit in the locker room at half,” Osinski said. “We took advantage of those changes and started playing tighter defense and sinking more shots. “

The fourth-seeded Dutchmen face top-seeded Bishop Maginn at Hudson Valley Community College this weekend.

“Maginn is always a talented team,” said Osinski. “I think it will be nice to play them at a neutral site.”
