GUILDERLAND — An orange glow awakened the homeowner at 2781 Curry Rd. on Feb. 22, said Second Assistant Chief of the Fort Hunter Fire Department Eric Adams.

He called 9-1-1 at 4:04 a.m. and, when firefighters arrived, the roof of his cement-block garage was burned off and the garage was fully involved, Adams said.

A burned-out car was visible inside the ruined shell of the structure. Several vehicles, including tractors, were a complete loss, said Adams.

The side of the home suffered some “exposure damage,” Adams said; the vinyl siding was shredded. There was no damage to the inside of the two-story frame home built during the first half of the 20th Century, he said, adding that the next-door neighbor had some minor damage to a shed.

No one, including firefighters, was hurt, the assistant chief said.

Investigators were sifting through the ashes, beginning to look for a possible cause at about 6:30 a.m., but Adams had no information yet on what started the fire.

Responding were, in addition to Fort Hunter, Carman Fire Department, Rotterdam District 2, South Schenectady, Pine Grove, and Stanford Heights. Guilderland Fire Department was on standby in the Fort Hunter station, said Adams.

According to Albany County tax rolls, the home is in the Mohonasen School District and owned by Terry Bailey. It is listed as having a full-market value of about $131,000.
