ENCORE! Books is bursting at the seams!
To the Editor:
With spring only a short three months away, the Friends of the Voorheesville Library is excited to announce the expansion of ENCORE! Books, which began its first year in May 2016. The Voorheesville-New Scotland community received and supported this project during our first spring-summer season with such enthusiasm that we are bursting at the seams and need more available space to double our capacity to organize, store, and make available our well-rounded inventory.
The ENCORE! Books project makes available deeply discounted high-quality reading and viewing materials. Monetary donations to the Friends of the Library are accepted in exchange for these items. We are strengthening our commitment to literacy by adding a second used book and media shed in the front of the Voorheesville Public Library.
Your support is vital at this juncture to the ENCORE! Books project mission. A special appeal is underway so that we can purchase an additional shed and have it ready for ENCORE! Books’ opening the first week of May.
All funds raised by ENCORE! Books help benefit many library programs at the Voorheesville Library for youth and adults: the annual children’s summer reading program, book discussion groups, author visits, speakers, concerts, special projects, to name a few. Our group believes in the “pay it forward” motto.
Our large diverse selection also allows us to donate to a variety of other locations and/or groups in need of quality literature or up-to-date non-fiction: the New Scotland Senior Citizen Center, 1000 Book Program (blue and burgundy book bags) at Berne-Knox-Westerlo Elementary School, the historic schoolhouse at the Altamont Fair, Grassroots Caregivers in Albany, the Albany County jail, the establishment of a primary-school library in Africa through The Peace Corps, assistance to new teachers in local schools so they can enhance their classroom bookshelves, etc.
Literacy for all ages both near and far is primary to our mission.
Please consider making a monetary donation in the amount you feel is appropriate. Donations may be sent to Friends of the Voorheesville Library, Post Office Box 79, Voorheesville, NY 12186 with the notation: ENCORE! Books. We thank all those who have been a part of this successful project thus far and welcome anyone to join in our venture.
