Bicyclist injured

ALTAMONT A bicyclist was injured last week when he attempted to cross over the railroad tracks on Main Street in the village.

The Johnsonville (Rensselaer Co.) man, wearing biking gear, a helmet, and sunglasses, flipped over his handle bars last Thursday, Feb. 9, after trying to cross the tracks going eastbound, according to Officer Christopher Laurenzo of the Altamont Police Department.

The cyclist landed on his head and was unable to answer questions, Laurenzo said. Passers-by found the man lying on his back on Main Street and called 911. They helped keep him safe until the Altamont Rescue Squad and Guilderland paramedics arrived, Laurenzo said.

The Rescue Squad and paramedics used a backboard to move the victim and transported him to Albany Medical Center, Laurenzo said.
