Helderberg Ambulance seeks new members

January was a busy month for the Helderberg Ambulance Squad. There were 38 calls with 19 transports. The majority of these calls were medical. There were 24 calls in Berne and 14 calls in Knox. The Albany County Sheriff’s Office paramedic and the Guilderland paramedic rode with the squad on 10 calls.

On Jan. 28, the squad held its annual American Red Cross blood drive. Thank you, everyone, for donating. There were 31 units of blood donated.

On Feb. 11, the squad will be at the Senior Citizen Center in Berne to take blood pressures for the seniors before their monthly meeting.

On Feb. 25, the squad will be at the ice races at Maple Inn, weather and ice permitting.

As always, we are looking for new members. We need drivers, attendants, and EMTs. If you are interested in joining, we meet at the station on Cole Hill Road on the second Thursday of each month.

The drill for this month will be conducted by the Albany County Paramedic supervisor, Brian Wood.

Remember to pull over safely when you see an emergency vehicle.
