To the Editor:

In regard to John Haluska’s letter asking for women past and present for historical markers in Guilderland, I nominate Melissa Hale-Spencer for her unrelenting dedication to “truth through research” in her editorial leadership of The Altamont Enterprise.

Specifically I would cite her story on Doctor Hedy Midgen in the Jan. 12, 2017 edition of The Altamont Enterprise. This type of incisive and detailed attention to a local story with wide reverberations throughout New York State and the nation does not happen by itself.

This is only the latest example of her courage in facing up to huge and well-financed interests that would prefer silence to a well-spoken and evenhanded telling of fact and circumstance.
