Five years to the day that Berne-Knox-Westerlo kindergartner Kenneth White was murdered by his cousin in their Knox home, a vigil was held by Kenneth’s Army at the place his body was found, across Thacher Park Road from the trailer where he had he lived.

On Dec. 4, Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara will honor East Berne resident M. Claire Ansbro-Ingalls as a woman of distinction for her work with Kenneth’s Army, an organization that fights against child abuse and other societal ills.

As an emergency foster-care parent, Linda Dunn hadn’t expected to care for Christine and Cheyanne White for very long. But four-and-a-half years after a tragedy brought them to her, she has now adopted them.

Kenneth White’s family cried quietly in the courtroom last Thursday morning as his killer read a statement to the judge, expressing her remorse.

Now 20, VanAlstyne is facing a sentence of 18 years to life, scheduled to appear in court in January.

Jayson White was allowed, as a result of the pre-trial hearing on May 18, to see his two daughters for supervised visits, with his progress monitored with regular appearances in family court.
