investigating past climate and oceanographic changes during times (16-45 million years ago) when CO2 was as high as what is predicted for this century (500-1000 ppm). As CO2 is rising rapidly today, which is predicted to be like putting our climate on a “hot plate”, exploring these times for him is like “Looking Back to Our Future”.

On Aug. 11 and 12 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., the Middleburgh Library’s summer program Fizz, Boom, Read will present “Mysterious Shadow Puppets with Morgan Kelly”. In this class, we will learn about the history of this art form and also design and build our very own shadow puppets.  Students will put together a short puppet presentation to share with family and friends the final day. This is a multi-day program. This program is appropriate for children going into grades two through five. Registration is required.

Optical illusions

Aug. 13, at 2 p.m., join us for Spark a Reaction: “Optical Illusions & Brain Games”. Trick your eyes with a number of optical illusions and then discover scientifically what is happening with your eye and brain for this to occur. Medicine program

On Aug. 14, at 1 p.m., the library’s Fizz, Boom, Read presents  “Ewe! Gross! Medicine in 1777”. Get ready to get gross. Join educators from the Bennington Museum as they tell us about some of the strange, outrageous and unbelievable medical and dental practices of the 18th Century.  This hands-on program will be held at the Dr. Best House and Medical Exhibit and will include a short tour of the good doctor's strange and unique medical equipment from the 19th and early 20th centuries. This program is appropriate for kids going into grades three through five.  Registration is required.
