The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has estimated the cost of remediating the brownfield site at more than $2.4 million. 

GUILDERLAND — Garry Robinson wants a bigger parking lot for his Ace hardware store at 1874 Western Ave. He plans to tear down the building next door that has been, over the years, an auto-parts shop, a jewelry store, a bicycle store, and a Dairy Queen. 

A traffic analysis says a drive-in bank would generate fewer trips than the current conditions.

Spruce Plaza would house a restaurant, a law firm, a dentist’s office, and a nail salon. 

Wayne Crounse of 2071 Western Ave. remembers a grassroots effort by housewives from Western Avenue in the 1950s who wanted a traffic light at the corner of Route 20 and State Farm Road. New Karner Road had not yet been built.

Guilderland has received a grant of $680,800 to install a sidewalk that will accommodate wheelchairs, linking the Guilderland Library to the SEFCU building at Regency Park Drive, near Route 155.

The Department of Taxation said there is still a current warranted balance of more than $25,000.

A pedestrian-vehicle accident on Western Avenue Monday morning left a woman with injuries that police say seem serious.

One of three assisted-living facilities that may soon come to Guilderland now goes back to the town’s planning board to work out any remaining issues with the site plan.
