Voorheesville Blackbirds won their second consecutive Class C sectional title in winter boys’ volleyball last Saturday by beating Chatham three sets to one — 25-9, 25-14, 25-27, and 25-20 — at Maple Hill High School.

Voorheesville's volleyball championship was the culmination of two years of progression.

The Blackbirds won three straight matches for the Section II Class C title against Greenville on Feb. 28.

The Guilderland girls' volleyball team won in three straight sets (25-11, 25-21, and 25-16) against Shaker on Oct. 28.  The boys won their matchup against Colonie on Friday to advance in the playoffs.

The Blackbirds won one set and lost three by the scores of 18-25, 18-25, 27-25, and 17-25 against Fonda.

Voorheesville is not the volleyball powerhouse it once was.

Momentum, communication, and energy all feed off each other in volleyball. Guilderland realizes that.

Adrian Michalski was one of the best volleyball players in Voorheesville history, and now he's the coach.

Four years at the state championships for Voorheesville volleyball, and no titles. The players and their coach say they have no regrets.

The Voorheesville volleyball team will try to win a state title for the fourth year in a row; the championship has been elusive before. Can they do it?
