The spotted lanternfly is the latest invasive species in New York.

The state’s departments of Environmental Conservation and Agriculture and Market have started a  campaign to encourage New Yorkers to look for and report sightings of the spotted lanternfly, which was first found in Pennsylvania in 2014.

A $32,000 grant will fund efforts to stop invasive species at the Huyck Preserve in Rensselaerville.

The state’s departments of Environmental Conservation and Agriculture and Markets have released the draft Invasive Species Comprehensive Management Plan for public comment. The proposed plan is designed to minimize the introduction, establishment, and spread of invasive species throughout New York.

The annual Asian longhorned beetle Swimming Pool Survey is underway, marking the program’s sixth summer of research work.  

Invasive species can be found throughout Thacher Park and Thompsons Lake, but education campaigns and volunteers have helped to stem their impact on biodiversity.
