It’s wrong for people to kill animals to eat them

To the Editor:

In response to the letter from Erin Bradt regarding buying locally raised/grown food ("Know your farmer, know your food," Oct. 9, 2014): You give an admirable description of what your farm, and others like it, are like, and how important they are to reducing our carbon footprint, producing healthy food, etc.

My concern is for the animals. While what you describe on your farm is certainly better than what is happening on industrial farms, in the end, your livestock, chickens, and hogs are all slaughtered against their will, for our consumption.

I believe that we are to be good stewards of not only the Earth, but all of those who share the Earth with us. No matter how much better it may make us feel that they lived a good life while they're here, in the end, their innocent lives are taken from them.
