Hug your loved ones and thank your civil servants

To the Editor:

Early on the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 20, our daughter, my husband, and I had the unfortunate experience of being part of a vehicle rollover accident on Route 146.

We want to express our sincere thanks to those anonymous people who immediately stopped and helped us — reminding us to “turn off the car” (a first step in any accident), assisting with getting us all out of the upside-down vehicle, calling 911, directing traffic until police arrived,  and otherwise providing moral support.

In addition, thanks are extended to the volunteer fire personnel that luckily did not need to extricate anyone or put out any fires, but were needed to assist with prepping the vehicle to be set upright and towed, and to the very kind paramedic and the Guilderland Police for obtaining all the necessary information from witnesses.

This also serves to remind everyone to hug your loved ones when they leave your sight, as one never knows what events the day will bring.  In our case, we were extremely fortunate to have avoided a tragedy.

Please thank your civil servants, both paid and volunteer, for their service before you need them.  We are all so grateful to live in a kind and caring community.  Thank you all.
