The spending plan comes right up against the state-set levy limit but does not pierce it. This means a simple majority vote can pass the budget. While spending is up 1.88 percent from last year, the tax levy is up 2.3 percent.

Jason Southwood of Albany is seeking permission to convert the former seasonally-operated Cone Zone at 2028 Western Ave. to a year-round retail cannabis dispensary.

On Saturday, April 5, Guilderland, Bethlehem, and Voorheesville track teams took part in the Guilderland Frigid Cup Invitational held at Guilderland High School. As the athletes competed fiercely on the track and in the field, Mother Nature had other ideas.

When I was a child in the 1960s, Altamont meant cows and farms, hayfields and apple trees, old houses and open spaces. We had moved from the village mid-decade, but we never really left it. We’d head back to the village at every opportunity — to visit friends, go to church, or often just to “take a ride.”
