The twice-a-year fee, which is used to pay for 2013 upgrades to Altamont’s Gun Club waste-water treatment facility, will increase from $45 to $100 per user.

The biggest factor in the revenue jump is the state’s commitment to make Foundation Aid to schools whole. That brought Guilderland an additional $1.5 million this year and will bring in $2.5 million next year.

The most important change in preparing for an active shooter is that faculty now has options. Formerly, the only choice was to go into lockdown. Now teachers can choose something different, like having students leave the school, which Guilderland High School Principal Michael Piscitelli said was “super powerful.”

Thomas A. Cyr Sr.

GUILDERLAND — Thomas A. Cyr Sr., an outdoorsman, died on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021, surrounded by family. He was 61.

Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Albert and Elizabeth Cyr.

“Tommy enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing,” his family wrote in a tribute. “Above all, he was a proud uncle.”

Robert James Magil

ALTAMONT — Robert James Magil of Altamont and Englewood, Florida “peacefully passed away to Heaven and Home” on Monday, Nov. 29, 2021, after a brief illness, his family wrote in a tribute. He was 76.

A resource fair for veterans, active duty service members, and their families will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 8, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Helderberg Post 977 in Altamont.

The post is located at 988 Altamont Blvd. in the village.

After an asbestos-cement water main broke in Altamont this fall, no tests for asbestos were performed so the federal regulation is meaningless, since there is no way to know if it should be enforced.

Altamont didn’t have to test for asbestos following the late September main break on Schoharie Plank Road West because the village’s entire system did not shut down for four or more hours or experience a significant loss of pressure.

On Tuesday, Nov. 30, the Guilderland Dutchmen bowling team started off on the right foot by beating Bethlehem at Town n’ Country lanes in Guilderland. Guilderland won 29 and a half to 2 and a half, with 3471 to 2765 in pins.
