Voorheesville Library Notes for Tuesday, October 18, 2022

Libby is a free app where you can borrow ebooks, digital audiobooks, and magazines from your public library. You can stream titles with Wi-Fi or mobile data, or download them for offline use and read anytime, anywhere. All you need to get started is a library card.

The Upper Hudson Library System is offering the following virtual training:

— Basics: Oct. 24 from 10 to 11 a.m. - Learn everything you need to know to get started with Libby;

— Deep Dive: Oct. 25 from 10 to 11 a.m. - Learn some of our favorite tips and tricks to enhance your Libby experience;

— Magazines: Oct. 26 from 10 to 11 a.m. - Learn all about borrowing magazines in Libby.

Jazz Project

Stop by the library tonight, Thursday, Oct. 20,at 6:30 p.m, to listen to Bassist Linda Brown, guitarist Mike Novakowski and violinist/vocalist Teresa Broadwell, as they perform some jazz standards with great melodies and a swing feel. Music is co-sponsored by the Music Performance Trust Fund and the Voorheesville Public Library, arranged by the Albany Musicians Association. No registration needed.

Paranormal Society

Come join founder Gary Robusto, from the Tri-City Paranormal Society, at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct.26. We’ll learn about how paranormal investigators approach the field of the unexplained with as much critical thinking and logic as can be employed. Examine the best possible evidence of paranormal activity from around the region. We will be sharing photos, video and audio recordings of captured activity. Please register.

Afternoon Movies

Join us Thursday afternoons for a classic movie. All of our movies are audience requested, and cover a wide range of genres. Check out the movie schedule on our events calendar, and see if there is something that might entertain you. The community room now has hearing assistive devices available, to make your attendance more enjoyable. Movies start promptly at 1 p.m.

Teen Time:

Game Day

Students in grades 6 and up are invited to come to the library at 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4, to celebrate International Games Week. We’ll play Switch videogames on the big screen, geeky tabletop games, and group games. Snacks will be provided. Please register online.

Teens Care

Community Service

Community service certificates will be provided for students in grades 8 and up who participate  in “Hatsgiving”. Join us at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11, to machine-sew fleece hats for pediatric cancer patients. We’ll be serving cookies and cocoa, to make you even sweeter. Please register online, so we know how many cookies we’ll need. 

Kanopy

Kanopy is a video-streaming platform that is only available through your public library. You are entitled to 10 free movie credits every month. Just visit voorheesvillelibrary.kanopy.com, and create an account using your library card. Once you’ve established an account, you can start streaming. It’s that easy. While you’re there, check out Kanopy Kids, for children ages 2 and up. Movie credits are not required to play in Kanopy Kids, so you can enjoy unlimited plays in this curated collection.
