Voorheesville Library Notes for Tuesday, October 13, 2020

The book-drop at the Voorheesville Public Library is unlocked, and curbside pickup and in-person browsing appointments are available Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The library is closed on Sunday.

Any person entering the building is expected to: wear a mask; follow six-foot physical distancing; and follow directional arrows on the floor.

In-person appointments for browsing the library may be made by calling 518-765-2791. Visits are currently limited to three patrons at a time for 30 minutes. Restrooms remain closed to the public.

Teens Care

Teens can pick up project kits on Friday, Oct. 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., to sew for charity and earn community service time. Choose from telemetry pouches for the cardiac unit of Albany Medical Center (requires a sewing machine), or catnip toys for the animal shelter (can be sewn by hand).

Grades 6 to 12, please register on the event calendar at www.voorpl.org, and pick up your prepared kit. Complete the projects at home, then return completed items to the library by the end of the month. 

Food drive

As part of the Great Give Back, the library will be holding a food drive for the New Scotland Community Food Pantry from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 17. High School Key Club members will be standing by in our parking lot to receive your donations.

There is currently a need for: canned soups, canned beans, corn, peas and tomatoes, cake and cookie mixes, noodle pouches, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste. The mission of The Great Give Back is to provide a day of opportunities for the patrons of the Public Libraries of NYS to participate in meaningful, service-oriented experiences. 

Halloween Spooktacular

Family Story Time

Children ages 3 to 6 are invited to join Mrs. Brown and Miss Lisa for a virtual storytime at 10:30 a.m., Oct. 24, to share some not too spooky Halloween fun. We can’t wait to see you in your Halloween costume, live on Zoom! Please register to receive the private meeting link.

Middle School

Book Club

In October, we’ll read a Newbery Medal winning fantasy “The Girl Who Drank the Moon”, by Kelly Barnhill, featuring a swamp monster, a tiny dragon, and a witch. This book club is held in collaboration with the Middle/High School Librarian.

Meetings will be held on Zoom after school and will include activities, games, and author info as well as discussion of the book shared. The club is open to students in grades 6 to 8, new members are always welcome.

Multiple ebook copies are available to download through Hoopla. Please register using our online calendar, or through the MS Library’s Google Classroom to get the meeting invitation for 4:00pm, Wednesday, October 28.

Book Discussion

Join our virtual discussion at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4. We’ll be discussing our November book pick, the classic “1984” by George Orwell. Copies are available in print and digital formats. Please register to receive the private meeting link.
