Guilderland Library Notes for Wednesday, May 22, 2019

Due to popular demand, the Guilderland Public Library is screening more Oscar-worthy films on Thursday nights:

— “Green Book,” shown on Thursday, May 23, at 6:30 p.m., tells the story of an Italian-American bouncer (Viggo Mortensen) from the Bronx who bonds with a world-class black pianist (Mahershala Ali) in 1962 while chauffeuring him around the Jim Crow South, relying on the “green book” to guide them to safe establishments. Academy Award winner for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Actor in a Supporting Role — Mahershala Ali; and

— “Vice,” shown on Thursday, May 30, at 6:30 p.m., depicts how unassuming Washington insider Dick Cheney (Christian Bale) quietly wielded immense political power within the Bush administration, becoming the most powerful vice president in American history. Amy Adams and Steve Carell also star.  Eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.

Library closed

Please note: The library will be closed:  Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27 for Memorial Day weekend; and Thursday, June 6 for Staff Development Day.
