The New Scotland Town Board settled months of back-and-forth among the various boards as to what constitutes a flashing sign.

The town board was alerted by the county that sales-tax revenue, a significant portion of New Scotland’s budget, may be at risk, due to competition from the internet and nearby counties that are seeing their own retail-shopping center development.

With official voting results in, Democrats Adam Greenberg and Daniel Leinung will be on the Conservative Party line for the fall election.

Daniel McCoy’s 2018 proposed budget for Albany County is up $25 million from last year, but stays under the state-set levy limit and doesn’t increase taxes.

The Altamont Village Board approved Wayde Bush as a new planning board member, following Kevin Clancy’s resignation.

The town’s proposed 2018 budget is up slightly over 2017. Most residents will see a small decrease in their taxes.

Voorheesville Village Trustee Florence Reddy resigned before the end of her term and has been replaced by on the board by Sarita Winchell.

Some members of the New Scotland Zoning Board expressed skepticism with the planning board’s appeal of what constitutes a flashing sign. A public hearing is to be held before any other decisions can be made about whether to allow the applicants to install their digital signs.

The positions of town justice, clerk, and highway superintendent are up for election this November. All incumbents are unopposed.

The general election in November will feature one competitive race for town council. The candidates were asked to weigh in on issues facing the town and its residents.
