SUNDAY SCHOOL CONVENTION

Semi-Annual Meeting of Seventh District, Albany County, Held at New Scotland Presbyterian Church, Monday Afternoon and Evening.

The Sunday schools of the Seventh district of Albany county held their fall convention on Monday afternoon and evening, Nov. 22, at the Presbyterian church of New Scotland. The interior of this church has been recently renovated, and presented a most pleasing appearance. Hardwood floors have been laid, the walls redecorated, and electric lights installed.

Mr. Irving Lainhart, the president of the district, presided at the sessions, and Mrs. E. O. Moffett served as temporary secretary. The Rev. J. A. MacDonald, pastor of the church, led the short devotional service at the opening of the afternoon session.

No Drinking at Yale

The new Connecticut liquor law which went into effect Nov. 1, forbids clubs to serve liquor to minors. This bars the serving of alcoholic beverages by all student societies at Yale, and the university corporation has been so notified by its legal advisers.

A Word of Warning

The public at large should be impressed with the fact that it is not safe to walk on or over railroad tracks. The railroads do not give this warning because of the annoyance to them, but for the safeguard of the trespassers themselves. The fact that 4,746 men, women, and children were killed, and 6,039 injured while trespassing on the steam railroads of the United States in the year 1914 makes it a labor of sheer humanity to convince the public how perilous it is to trespass on a railroad.

Statistics at hand contradict several popular beliefs in some interesting particulars. Of the 11,000 trespassers killed or injured nearly 5,000 were living at home with their families or parents. Nearly 6,000 were following some gainful occupation. More than 6,000 were known not to be tramps or hoboes. Only 1,700 were intoxicated. More than 7,000 were of American parentage, and 8,000 were between the ages of twenty-one and fifty.

Life is short. Let us not throw any of it away in useless resentment.

A severe electrical storm passed over this section of the state last Friday evening. Lightning played incessantly for about half an hour, reminding one of April weather. Rain came with a downpour, sweeping the streets and gutters clean.
