Democrats in Knox have acted shamefully

To the Editor:

I can't say I'm surprised at the personal attack Amy Pokorny made toward Vas Lefkaditis or the vicious personal attack Nick Viscio made toward Travis Stevens in last week's paper.

Nick's attack was inexcusable.  It was especially remarkable to me that he chose to single out Travis's Aunt Si Stevens's gas station; she was an absolutely lovely lady adored by virtually everyone in the town of Knox.  Stick to the issues and leave family out of it, Nick.

Amy's attack on Vas was not only baseless but a clear play on words during this “silly season” on her part to discredit Vas, one of the most brutally honest people I know.  Shame on you, Amy.

As a result of her letter, I wanted to use my own research skills to see for myself whether or not Vas's comments were fairly represented in his interview two weeks ago.  There's no doubt they were.

The draft titled "Knox NY Draft Research" does indeed consider new taxes on property sales and new assessments on local business.  But what's more concerning to me is that Mr. Lefkaditis sent Mrs. Pokorny an email on Sept. 24 specifically indicating the newly proposed taxes and assessments, asking her where those proposed increases came from.

Mrs. Pokorny did not take the opportunity to explain the additions but rather responded on Sept. 26 with a generic “thank you for your comments” type email.  Instead, she chose to explain herself in a misleading letter to the editor shamefully trying to drum up votes for Mike Hammond by wrongfully attempting to discredit Vas.

I've been involved in local politics and have been a school board member as well but I have never seen the Democrats in Knox panic and act as shamefully as they have this election year. Good news is, I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only person turned off by their behavior and I am certain it will be reflected at the polls on Nov. 3.

Vote for Travis Stevens and Vas Lefkaditis on Nov. 3 — two gentlemen with a plan who refuse to stoop to the incumbents’ lows just to win an election.

Editor’s note: Amy Pokorny forwarded two documents, by email, to Knox residents who had worked on comprehensive plan revisions. One of them was titled “Knox NY Draft Research.”

“Those items were just suggestions for workshop participants...to solicit a variety of ideas,” said Pokorny. “I sent them to see if I had represented their thinking correctly.”
