Take a StoryWalk in Knox to learn about General Henry Knox

To the Editor:

The Friends of the Berne Library have just installed the second StoryWalk in the Knox town park.  A StoryWalk is the display of pages of a book on posts on the trail throughout the park. This time, the Knox Historical Society is our co-sponsor and we chose the book “Henry and the Cannons,” written and illustrated by Don Brown.

History is unclear in determining for whom the town of Knox is named.  The most likely candidate is General Henry Knox for his efforts during the Revolutionary War and his career in the early days of the country.  This StoryWalk book recounts the expedition of Henry Knox to move cannons from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston to aid George Washington in chasing the British from Boston.

Take an invigorating walk along the path in the Knox Town Park, enjoy the scenery, and read the inspiring story of Henry Knox.  Learn about the Knox Trail, a series of historic markers installed by the states of New York and Massachusetts that follows Henry Knox’s route from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston.  The book provides a great way for children and adults alike to learn about an important historical event.
