Kiwanis are impressed with BKW senior prank

To the Editor:

After hearing about the Berne-Knox-Westerlo senior class "prank," which raised $350 for Emma's Incredibles to help fight lymphedema, and the $350 matching donation made by Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple, The Kiwanis Club of the Helderbergs was inspired to also make a $350 matching donation.

We want the BKW seniors to know how impressed we are with their compassionate "prank," and we hope to keep the ball rolling. Emma Detlefsen, a student at Bern-Knox-Westerlo Elementary School, has lymphedema, a disease of the lymphatic system.

Last year, she began raising funds for research to seek a cure for her disease by heading a team  (Emma's Incredibles) that walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. Emma was named an official fundraiser for the Lymphatic network, and was honored by the New York State Legislature on March 4, 2015 for her efforts.
