Free seeds at the Voorheesville library

To the Editor:

If you are planting a garden this spring, you can get free seeds at the Voorheesville Public Library. The Voorheesville library has a thriving "seed library,” which is free to use for all area residents.

There are all kinds of seeds available, ranging from common types of crops to seeds from around the world, including "Dakota black" corn, very hot "Trinidad scorpion” pepper, heirloom tomatoes, monstrous size "Superschmeltz" kohlrabi, squash of all kinds, heirloom wheat, and flowers too! All of the seeds are kept in a pink file cabinet near the entrance to the library.

Each type of seed has a "growing page" in the library's seed book that gives you tips about when to plant, soil and light needs, and how to grow each type of seed. Come explore and try something new in your garden this year.

We ask only that you save some seeds from your harvest and donate them back to the seed library. Join our thriving seed savers community, and plant a beautiful and bountiful garden!
