Gov accepts request
BKW tax deadline extended

BERNE — Governor Andrew Cuomo has accepted the request from Berne-Knox-Westerlo to extend the deadline for paying school taxes by 21 days, according to the school district.

The new due date for paying taxes without a penalty is October 21. Anyone making a payment between Sept. 30 and Oct. 21 that included late payment fees will have those fees reimbursed by the district by Oct. 31.

On Sept. 19, Cuomo had announced that he would grant a penalty-free and interest-free extension to taxpayers in areas affected by Tropical Storm Irene if school districts filed requests. The BKW School Board voted, 4 to 0, on Sept. 30, the day taxes were initially due, to request the extension.
