State restores $80K in aid to Voorheesville

By Saranac Hale Spencer

VOORHEESVILLE — According to the latest figures from the state, the school district is slated to get $79,659 in aid restored.

Governor Andrew Cuomo in January proposed deep cuts to state funding for school districts but restored over $200 million in aid during last-minute budget negotiations.

Voorheesville will get about $5 million in state aid, which is about 24 percent of the roughly $21 million budget the district will likely put before voters for the coming school year.

The school board plans to discuss what it will do with the restored aid from the state at its meeting on Monday, said the district’s assistant superintendent for business, Sarita Winchell.
