Jean Cataldo for receiver of taxes

By Anne Hayden

GUILDERLAND — Democrat Jean Cataldo is running unopposed for another four-year term as the town’s receiver of taxes. She has held the position since 2000.

Cataldo told The Enterprise in 2005 that she loved her job, and was constantly working to make things more convenient for residents. During her time as receiver of taxes, she has put tax information online, and has had a secure box installed near the front door at Town Hall, so residents could leave their payments after hours and not be charged a penalty.

She could not be reached for comment this week.

In 2005, Cataldo convinced the town board to accept both Visa and Mastercard, rather than just Discover card, so residents could pay their bills online. She also collects water payments and issues water and sewer permits.

“In my job, I have a lot of interaction with town residents,” she told The Enterprise during the last election cycle. “That’s just great. I love that.”

Before becoming receiver of taxes in 2000, a position that pays $53,362 annually, Cataldo worked as an administrative assistant for Marriott, and as a customer-service representative for Crossgates Mall.

Cataldo grew up in Albany and attended business school. She has two sons, Michael, and Stephen.
