King dies after being struck delivering Meals on Wheels GUILDERLAND Kathleen King died Tuesday at Albany Medical Center after she was struck by her car the day before, when she tried to stop it from rolling. At about 10:30 a.m. on Monday, the 80-year-old volunteer was delivering food for the Meals on Wheels program to Brandywine Apartments, on Route 155, according to a release from the Guilderland Police Department. After she parked her car in front of the 1700 building, it began rolling backwards. King ran after the car, which struck her and knocked her to the ground. Police officers and bystanders had to lift the vehicle off of her, the release says. Paramedics from the Guilderland Emergency Medical Services treated her at the scene and the Western Turnpike Rescue Squad took her to Albany Medical Center, the release says, and the Westmere Fire Department responded and assisted at the scene. King, of Greenwich Drive in Albany, had suffered a serious head injury, the release says. An Albany Medical Center spokeswoman said that she died around 3 p.m. on Tuesday. |
