Western Turnpike honored by EMS Council
GUILDERLAND — Having answered about 3,000 calls and started a Home for the Holidays program, Western Turnpike Rescue Squad was named the Agency of the Year for 2007 by the Hudson-Mohawk Regional EMS Council.
“Western Turnpike is honored to be acknowledged with this remarkable award,” Chief Howard Huth wrote in an e-mail. “We are proud to serve the towns of Guilderland and Bethlehem and are elated to be recognized for our stellar patient care and unwavering commitment to forge partnerships in our community.”
The council covers 3,500 square miles in the counties of Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady, he said, which serves 350,000 people.
Huth credited his squad’s Home for the Holidays program for contributing to the award. “With our educational and community programs [Western Turnpike Rescue Squad] had a landmark year,” Huth said in a release. “We launched an aggressive community outreach program. We strive to operate an agency that is community-friendly and truly lives by a ‘neighbors helping neighbors’ approach.”
Huth accepted the award on Monday at a ceremony held by REMO.
