Community Caregivers is here to help you

To the Editor:

I am writing to remind your readers that Community Caregivers remains open to provide services to our neighbors during these difficult times.

Some of the most common needs of seniors in our community right now include accessing groceries, supplies, and medication. To keep our volunteers and clients safe, we have limited capacity to provide these in-person services right now but are able to refer those in need of groceries, supplies, and medicine to delivery services or Meals on Wheels/Meals on Demand.

If any of your readers are going shopping anyway and are willing to pick up a few items for their neighbors in need, please call our office or email us at . We can help coordinate the shopping list and payment arrangements with the client.

We have significantly increased services by phone to help reduce isolation, loneliness, and anxiety. We are so grateful to our hero volunteers who are making regular reassurance calls to our clients.

If anyone knows of someone who would like to receive these calls, please contact our office. We also have small support groups that meet weekly by phone, including one for caregivers of folks with memory issues and another related to grief. We are happy to start additional small groups on a particular topic or just for general discussion to connect with neighbors.

Another new service is our Lunchtime Chat group calls to hear from local experts on a variety of topics.  Upcoming calls include discussions about decluttering your home, the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics, making maple syrup, and behind the scenes at The Altamont Enterprise.  Check our website, newsletter or Facebook Page for the calendar and join us by simply dialing 518-261-2761 at 1 p.m. each Tuesday and Friday.

At Community Caregivers, we are continuing our 26-year history of “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” and are available at our office phone at 518-456-2898 or by email at . weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We welcome calls and, if we can’t meet the need directly, we will work hard to find a solution.
