New Freihofer’s Run for Women ambassador Bethany Mazura said that what she loves about this race is that it is for “all women, all ages, all abilities.” She described herself as a “back-of-the-pack runner” but said, in addition to running the Freihofer’s Run nearly every year, she has also gone on to run in marathons and ultramarathons.

Penny Shaw, along with her husband, Rich Bartley, is directing a new generation of Comedy Kids in a new version of Shaw’s play “Not Yer Av’rage Fairytale.”

On Saturday, April 13, about 2,500 runners will participate in the first Helderberg-to-Hudson Half-Marathon. The race starts at New Scotland Town Park and ends at Jennings Landing in Albany.

The Voorheesville Dionysians spring musical, “Mamma Mia!” is pulling double duty this year. The group’s Saturday, March 22, performance will also be the drama club’s 50th anniversary celebration.

ALTAMONT — This week, Wayne Knapp and Kathy Mack, a couple from Guilderland, will be strolling the grounds of Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s Virginia plantation, and they will also be exploring, on foot, the nation’s capital of country music: Nashville, Tennessee.

VOORHEESVILLE — The Voorheesville Village Quilters will present their 2018 Quilt Show, “Joined by Threads VIII,” on July 14  and 15 at St. Matthew’s Parish Center in Voorheesville.  

RENSSELAERVILLE — Rensselaerville will hold its annual town-wide picnic on Sunday, June 10, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Bayard Elsbree Park on Route 145 in Preston Hollow to celebrate the unity of its five hamlets: Cooksburg, Medusa, Preston Hollow, Potter Hollow, and Rensselaerville.

RENSSELAERVILLE — The Rensselaerville Historical Society will be opening for the season on May 27, holding its annual bake sale Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.

The Lupine Fest, a free celebration hosted by the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission, will be held this year on June 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Activities will emanate from the Pine Bush Discovery Center at 195 New Karner Road.

People all over the world will be celebrating World Orienteering Day in May by trying out fun map activities and games. The Empire Orienteering Club held an event at the Berne-Knox-Westerlo School on May 23.
