“The aging population is increasing,” says Joel Edwards, a founder of Community Caregivers. “There is a socio-economic stress of, often, both adults working. And our families aren’t near. We need volunteers. We always need more volunteers.”

We want to help neighbors, even those who don’t now know one another, to connect and have a conversation. These conversations, conducted through our website, will be rooted in a place — the community we cover. The first topic will be cancer.

VOORHEESVILLE — The public is invited to attend a Community Visioning Workshop to inform the village’s Comprehensive Plan Committee.

The workshop will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, at St. Matthew’s Church at 25 Mountainview St. in Voorheesville.

A 14-member comprehensive land-use committee, developing the village’s first master plan, is is to have its work completed within 10 months.

A commission charged with mapping Voorheesville’s future has surveyed business owners and will hold a session to hear their ideas on Feb. 16. Another session is scheduled for Jan. 26 to hear from cultural groups.

Photos from around the area include coverage of a golf tournament for the J. Wyatt Spencer Memorial scholarship fund for Berne-Knox-Westerlo students, the second woman in 18 years to be an Albany firefighter, a 5K race in Tawasentha Park, and more.

On June 5, 10 artists showed off their artwork at the opening reception at the Guilderland Public Library. The exhibit is currently still up.

Stephen P. Scuderi, a patent attorney, has joined Heslin Rothenberg Farley & Mesiti P.C. in Albany.
