ENTERTAINED AT DINNER.
A number of people from Delmar were entertained last Sunday at a dinner given by Joseph Schaaf and sister, Anna, at their homestead farm in Selkirk. The “prelude” consisted of a delightful journey from Delmar which was a continuous moving picture of hills and dales, interspersed with comfortable farms of orchards, groves, and woodlands, with the sun-tipped Helderbergs for a background.

The “introduction” consisted of a quiet “hike” by the guests, led by the host, over his well-tilled vegetable fields. Truly, it seemed a “Sabbath Day’s Journey,” while royal egg plant, squash, tomato, and melon helped to make the introductory “hike” an appetizer for the sumptuous dinner prepared by the hostess and her competent sisters.

The Delmar guests were Mr. and Mrs. George Meyer, Miss Lizzie Apple, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Jones, Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Rude, Louisa Schaaf, Anna Schaaf, Ruth Jones, and Leonard Schaaf; also a cousin, Mr. Daniel Van Olpen, of Watervliet. The two young sisters of the hostess, Dorothy and Margaret, and Frank Collins of Selkirk, were also among the guests.

The grand climax was reached when in the late afternoon, the guests were arranged in a circle on the grass, with a bushel basket full of melons placed in the center. While Leonard Schaaf, as master of ceremonies, armed with a carving knife and tray of spoons, began the attack, each one claimed a personal victory.

The only thing to be regretted was that there was no camera on the premises.
