ALBANY COUNTY — After a lengthy hiatus, due to the pandemic, the Albany Area Chess Club is returning to its regular activities.

The club meets at 6 British American Blvd. in Latham, near the airport, every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

ALBANY COUNTY — Countywide, residents will cast their votes in several elections.

For Albany County Court judge, William T. Little is running unopposed on the Democratic and Working Families party lines.

The infection rate in Albany County is five times higher now than it was a year ago, said Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy. “It’s alarming going into the winter season,” he said. McCoy said he was making a plea, reluctant to issue executive orders. But, if numbers continue to rise, he said on Monday, “There’s measures I will take.”

Any legislative proposal to amend the Constitution of the State of New York must be passed in two successive legislative sessions; the amendment will then appear on the ballot, which must also pass. This year’s proposed amendments deal with elections, redistricting, the environment, and the courts. 

The process to replace two county planning board members had been shrouded in mystery. Albany County Legislator Mark Grimm shed a beam of light on the dark procedure.

“We also continue to see the majority of those residents sent to the hospital with the virus haven’t gotten a shot,” said Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy.

Lester Howe’s grave will be one of the 22 stops on the Oct. 29 tour of the Cobleskill Rural Cemetery. Howe lived from 1809 to 1888.

Judge Lawrence Kahn did allow for a faster discovery process on the plaintiffs’ request for preliminary injunction, which is to be held at a later date.

The state, led by Governor Kathy Hochul, continues to pursue requirements that health-care workers be vaccinated against COVID-19 while the State Senate Republicans, still opposed to the mandate, have proposed bills to incentivize health-care workers.

ALBANY COUNTY — Two members of the county’s planning board were slated for replacement without their knowledge.
