ALBANY COUNTY — The Albany Pine Bush Preserve will host its annual Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Franklin Roosevelt loved trees. As a lonely only child, he spent countless hours tramping the woods of his family’s estate at Hyde Park, Dutchess County and was said to know each tree on the place.

A new initiative puts Narcan cabinets in easily accessible places. Cabinets are already installed at the Berne Library, at the Washington Avenue branch of the Albany Public Library, at the University at Albany, and at the Capital City Rescue Mission. “If you want one of these in your building, we’ll make it happen,” said Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy.

“He brought the topic to life in a very powerful way, really basing his talk out of the actual words of our students who have experienced some version of hate speech,” said Guilderland’s superintendent about Matthew Pinchinat, the district’s DEI coordinator. Pinchinat used that, she said, “to make sure every child, every student, every adult knows that they are valued and affirmed and cared about.”

The board’s March 28 meeting began with an orchestrated chorus of students and parents pointing out space and safety issues with practice rooms and storage spaces for musical instruments.

On Monday afternoon, Apr. 3, the Guilderland boys’ tennis team traveled to Bethlehem High School to take on the Eagles in their first regular-season matchup of the spring tennis season. The Dutch fell 9 to 0.

Last Friday evening, March 31, the Guilderland Dutchmen and Voorheesville Blackbirds faced off at Guilderland High School in a non-league matchup. Guilderland’s high powered offense didn’t allow Voorheesville much opportunity as Guilderland won, 18 to 4.
