Guilderland Travel Baseball, along with Pine Bush Little League, is holding a Baseball-A-Thon featuring 24 straight hours of youth baseball to raise money to help little leagues impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

The players (ages 8 to 12) and families are eager to help those that have been impacted by Sandy. Guilderland Travel Baseball spends a great deal of time making sure the kids have a chance to just play ball and recognize that others are not going to have the same chance due to the aftereffects of Sandy.

This is a great opportunity to reinforce a sense of community and charity with the young players. By partnering with local baseball focused businesses like Frozen Ropes and the Tri-City Valley Cats, Guilderland is demonstrating that sportsmanship and goodwill goes beyond the field of play.

“At Frozen Ropes we teach baseball and softball skills every day,” said Brendan Roberts, owner of Frozen Ropes in Albany. “Working with Guilderland Travel Baseball on this event is a great way to demonstrate that the skills we teach go beyond the playing field. Showing good sportsmanship and playing the game right extends to how we work within the community,”

The Baseball-A-Thon will be held on Dec. 8 and 9 from noon to noon at Frozen Ropes (3 Interstate Avenue, Albany).

There will be over 100 players from Guilderland Travel Baseball and Pine Bush Little League participating in the event. Each of GTB’s eight travel baseball teams, along with other Pine Bush Little League players, will get three hours to play a simulated game and other contests.

Each player has a pledge sheet to get family and friends to donate based on their participation. Donations are via cash or check and online on GTB’s website (www.guilderlandtravelbaseball.com).

GTB is looking for corporate sponsors for monetary donations, covering specific event expenses (t-shirts, food, etc.) or donation of goods to the event. There will be a silent auction for donated sports memorabilia and a drawing during the event for other donated items.

Little League programs in New York and New Jersey that were impacted by Sandy will receive all the proceeds from the event.
