All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2013 Knights of Columbus Jason Brown Memorial Free Throw Championship.
The local competition will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12 (makeup on Jan. 19) at 6 p.m. at the Christ the King Parish gym on Sumpter Avenue.
Registration and warm-ups will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 12. Refreshments, pizza, and certificates will be provided free to all the participants.
The Jason Brown Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. A national champion will be decided at West Point Military Academy in March. Guilderland’s Zachary Barr competed last year at West Point, and won the New York State Championship.
All boys and girls 10 to 14 years old are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. Last year, more than 223,000 sharpshooters participated in over 3,200 local competitions across the country.
All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in the event. Participants are required to provide proof of age (copy of birth certificate) and written parental consent.
Entry forms will be provided during registration before the competition or participants may get them before Jan. 12 from Ed Brown who is the Christ the King Catholic Youth Organization director. For more information, contact Ed Pierce at 469-4803.
