Biddy B

The Guilderland Biddy B won a nail biter, beating a tough Averill Park team, 16 to 15, on Saturday.

The game was decided by an aggressive 2-3 defense that controlled the paint. All players contributed to the win through aggressive defense and a never say quit attitude.

The Guilderland team fell down, 8 to 2, early but the team came to life, spurred on by the tenacious defense of Vivienne Owens. Her two quick steals led to four quick points by Graycen Dubin.

Thanks to the tough defense by all players, the Guilderland team was able gain the lead in the second half and then never gave the lead up. Dubin finished the game with 14 points and Rebecca Rowe contributed two points to seal the deal.

Third/fourth grade

The GBC third grade “White“ team played an away game against the “Little Lady” Warriors of Averill Park on Sunday.

The spirited third graders got off to a slow start against the Warriors, falling behind, 6 to 0, until Lynnwood’s Bella Gitto scored two quick baskets to bring the Little Lady Dutch to within two points.

After a quick timeout, the Warriors went back to work, connecting on seven unanswered baskets to take a 20-to-4-halftime lead.

Never giving up and hustling at 110 percent, the Lady Dutch came out strong and played great defense to outscore the Warriors, 6 to 4, in the second half. Gitto led Guilderland in scoring with eight points. Westmere’s Lauren Hoyle also chipped in a basket to complete the teams scoring.

Junior B

Guilderland matched up against Averill Park last Saturday for a truly exhilarating performance. Both teams put forth excellent efforts as the Lady Dutch fought back from a late game deficit to tie the game and push the contest into overtime.

Averill Park pulled away in the extra period to bring in the win, 49 to 45.

Rachel Mastrianni led Guilderland with 19 points, while Emily Burns contributed seven points and five rebounds. Alexa DiCaprio and Margan Kieley grabbed five steals each, leading the team’s tenacious defensive effort.

The girls take on Clifton Park this coming Saturday.

Junior A

The Guilderland Junior A team banked its first win last Saturday against Averill Park, 39 to 20.

The girls started off slow but Nicole Fyvie adding three quick baskets to pick up the momentum. Fyvie finishing the game with 12 points, and Kerry Gerety and Skyle Lindsay added eight points each. Olivia Baumann, who also has a spot on the Guilderland varsity team, contributed seven points.

GBC continues to improve every week and is really shaping up as a whole unit. Next week, Junior A hosts Clifton Park on Saturday and travels to Saratoga on Sunday.

Biddy C

The Biddy C team was anxious to get back into action after the holiday break. Taking on a tenacious St. Mary’s of Waterford team, the Guilderland Storm got off to a slow start.

Shots were plentiful but not falling early on for the Storm. With its signature aggressive man defense, the Storm held St. Mary’s at bay as Haley Bonavita (four points), Laila Nino, and Valencia Fontenelle (four points) finally got the offense going as the half ended with Guilderland on top, 10 to 2.

The second half saw the Storm take command of the game with Lauren Thompson and Grace McFerran (eight points) leading the offense and Kendall Rafferty, Gwen Wronski, and Empress Lee controlling the boards.

Savannah Henderson and Caroline Burns forced several key turnovers as the Storm went on to win, 21 to 2.

Division leader Guilderland returns to action next week with two key league games against Clifton Park and Saratoga.

Biddy A

The Biddy A team added to the Guilderland wins as it defeated Averill Park, 28 to 10.
