With the best view of it all, children during Berne's Summerfest pulled themselves up the youth council's climbing wall. At the center of Berne’s Summerfest on Saturday was a stream of music flowing from the town park’s pavilion into the baseball field; engorged lines of vendors and demonstrations; and a car show.

Unable to stay still amid the music, Harvey Connors and his girlfriend, Linda, hold hands as they dance to the Bluestones, playing in the cool afternoon on Aug. 23.

During a lull in the music, winners of the zucchini contest were displayed by Michael Stempel; the other contests tested facial hair, pies, and batters in a homerun derby.

In the car contest, Roger Smith displayed his 1930 Model A Ford Truck, telling stories of its restoration to admirers Michael Salisbury and his son, Aaron.

Trivializing human feats for some, Michael Gaylo of Hawks, Owls & Wildlife, displayed birds of prey in a tent at the center of the town park, ending with the hoot of a great-horned owl.
