Ple-e-e-se, Mom? Wolfgang Hart of Guilderland plays with Ruby, available for adoption from Good Shepherd K9 Rescue. Wolfgang has never owned a dog before, and his family visited Steve Caporizzo’s Adoption Day to see if they felt a connection with any dog in particular. They put in an application for Ruby that day.

Winning her over: At The Animal Hospital in Guilderland, during Steve Caporizzo’s annual Pet Adoption Day on July 21, Kay Lari of Rotterdam cradles Flipper. Lari adopted a small black dog called Asher a month ago from Free to Be Me Rescue, and is considering adopting Flipper from the same organization. Thirty groups took part in the event, including one with three puppies birthed by a pregnant dog rescued from hurricane-torn Puerto Rico.

In a kennel: A volunteer lies beside and holds the paw of Maybelline, a Neapolitan mastiff available for adoption through The Animal Support Project. Maybelline was at her first-ever adoption event, the ninth annual Adoption Day run by The Animal Hospital and Steve Caporizzo — the News 10 ABC weatherman who runs a Pet Connection program — with Healthy Pet Center. According to Caporizzo, about 30 rescue groups and shelters took part. The day brought at least 150 adoptions or applications likely to result in adoptions, Caporizzo said, and $20,000 was raised, with $18,000 handed out to the groups that participated.

Kiss: A woman passing by pauses to plant a kiss on the muzzle of a dog up for adoption at the ninth annual Adoption Day run by The Animal Hospital and Steve Caporizzo, the weatherman for News 10 ABC who runs a Pet Connection program, with Healthy Pet Center. According to Caporizzo, about 30 rescue groups and shelters took part. Playing like a puppy: Christian Deleon of Albany, who is 6, imitates the way puppy Huxley and Huxley’s mother, Lily, at left, are tumbling about and playing. Christian and his family applied that day to adopt the small tan puppy available from Rottie Empire Rescue, a group that a volunteer explained started out as a Rottweiler rescue, but now works with all breeds. Sales of the dog tents in the background benefitted the rescue.

Smiling for the camera: Mr. Bam-Bam, center, is “so easygoing,” says Darcy Krein, left, a volunteer with Out of the Pits rescue. Mr. Bam-Bam was wearing a bandanna that many of the animals available for adoption wore on Saturday at the ninth annual Adoption Day at The Animal Hospital on Rocking Horse Lane in Guilderland.
