Accidents are frequent on Route 20 in Westmere: This one took place at the intersection of Johnston Road at 11:05 a.m. on April 23. According to Captain Curtis Cox with the Guilderland Police, Shane Spillenger, 29, of Albany, driving a black 2001 Toyota pickup, went through the red light, heading east on Route 20 and hit a 2015 Hyundai, driven by Sabrina Kelly, 20, of Rotterdam who was heading through the green light, north on Johnston; the pickup rolled over several times, hitting a 2015 Kia Suburban, driven by Colton White, 18, of Altamont. All three drivers were alone in their vehicles; only Spillenger was hurt, said Cox, and treated for minor injuries.

Aftermath: Rhoades Service Center workers load the rolled pickup truck onto their flatbed after the accident April 23 at the intersection of Route 20 and Johnston Road. No one has been charged in the accident, said Guilderland Police Captain Curtis Cox this week; the driver of the pickup said he looked down at his radio and, when he looked up, the light was red. At right is the Hyundai that the truck hit before rolling over several times, hitting a Suburban. After being released from the hospital, Shane Spillenger was ticketed at the Guilderland Police station at 3:10 p.m. for possession of marijuana, a violation, because, his arrest report says, police discovered after the accident, he had a jar containing marijuana and a pipe containing marijuana residue.
