Guilderland area AARP Chapter 980 holds meetings on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. The meetings are located at Christ the King Church on Sumpter Ave. Park in the back parking lot, enter double doors, and go left down the hallway to the Chapel Room. 

Volunteers needed

We need a volunteer to help deliver meals to homebound residents in Guilderland on Friday mornings, from approx. 10 to 11:30 a.m.  Please call the Senior Office at 356-1980, ext. 1095 for more details.

If you are interested in volunteering once in a while, as a substitute driver, for about an hour and a half this is an opportunity for you.  Meals are delivered to Guilderland and Altamont residents weekdays.  Please call 356-1980, ext.1095 for further information.

There will be an AARP defensive driving class on July 20 and 22. There are still openings. Call the Senior Office to sign up.

— On Wednesday, Oct. 7, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare…Abridged” at the Lake George Dinner Theatre.  The lunch, show and bus cost is $71.

Art show and reception

The town of Guilderland Senior Artists League will be exhibiting their work at the Guilderland Public Library from June 5 through June 26. You are cordially invited to the opening reception of the exhibit on Sunday, June 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library located at 2228 Western Avenue. Light refreshments will add to the festivity.

S.A.L.T.

The Office of the Albany County District Attorney’s Senior and Law Enforcement Together is a multi-disciplinary approach; it is a partnership between the district attorney’s office, other law enforcement agencies, community organizations and members of the senior community themselves.

The goal of S.A.L.T. is to heighten public awareness of elder abuse, provide prevention and intervention strategies; Offer education to those serving seniors; the ultimate goal is to combat elder fraud/abuse and exploitation.

Following the lunch, many seniors play bingo, other board games, shoot a game of pool, or simply converse with friends. Please think about joining. We would love to have you. Transportation is available.

Following the lunch, many seniors play bingo, other board games, shoot a game of pool, or simply converse with friends. Please think about joining. We would love to have you. Transportation is available.

Drivers needed

If you are interested in volunteering once in a while for about an hour-and-a-half this is an opportunity for you. Meals are delivered to Guilderland/Altamont residents weekdays. Please call 356-1980, ext. 1048 for further information.
