Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, July 16, 2014

The drawing for the donated HD 7-inch Kindle Tablet was held at the ice cream social on June 26 at the library. The winner was announced by visiting New York State Assemblywoman Patricia A. Fahy.  And the winner was Bruce Mance. Thank you all for participating and for attending the social. A special thanks to Stewarts’ Ice Cream Shops for their generous and delicious contribution that makes this community event possible.

Summertots

On Thursdays, July 17 and 24, at 10:15 a.m., children ages newborn to 36 months and their caregiver are invited to join Miss Amy for an early literacy program. After the short program, the children will have the opportunity to play with the age-appropriate toys and learning activities either indoors or outdoors. Water play activities will take place outside, so don’t forget to wear your sunscreen and bring a towel and an extra change of clothes.

Experiment program

How do Elephants Brush their Teeth? Find out on July 17 as we learn about the basic science principles of cause and effect and exothermic chemical reactions in a fun and educational hands-on experiment program.  This program is for ages seven to 12 and their parents or caregivers. Please register.  Parent or caregiver must assist child.

Musical story time

On Saturday, July 19, at 10:15 a.m., this very special musical story time returns for toddlers through kindergarteners with an adult, featuring music and movement, stories, rhymes, and fun activities. Although she has officially retired, Mrs. Laiosa has promised to offer the occasional special program at the library.

Music and movement

Dance instructor Beth Jacobs will lead children in kindergarten through grade three on a creative exploration of South American rainforests with a dynamic program that incorporates music, movement, and books. Please register early and join us on July 21 at 2 p.m., for this unique and fun program.

Get ready for kindergarten

Starting kindergarten is a special time for parents and children.  Join us on Tuesday, July 22, at 6:30 p.m., for a fun-filled and educational evening where soon-to-be-kindergarteners will hone their kindergarten skills at activity and learning centers. Let's celebrate this important and exciting milestone. This program is for children entering kindergarten and their parents or caregiver; please register.

LEGO Club

On Wednesday, July 23, at 7 p.m., tweens in grades four through seven are invited to join our new LEGO Club.  Enjoy some free-building time with other LEGO-maniacs. What kind of robot will you build from our LEGOs? Feel free to bring a model from home to show off. Library LEGOs to share and club-member creations will be kept separate. You can also take a turn on the Wii playing LEGO videogames. Please register.

Donations

The library is now accepting donations. You can drop off your used books, DVDs and audiobooks at the library during regular business hours.

Artist of the month

Please be sure to stop by to enjoy the photography of Bob Riccardo and Carol Donato, featuring the Fonda Speedway. These photos practically jump off the walls with action. If you enjoy Fonda, you don’t want to miss this show.
