Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, June 18, 2014

“Fizz, Boom, Read” is our theme for 2014. Our programs are free and open to all. Young people who join the summer Voorheesville Public Library program keep their minds active and enter school in the fall ready to learn and ready to succeed. Check our library website for up-to-date information about our programs, reading lists, and the many ways to discover the treasures of your library.

Sign up now for summer programs.

 Here are just a few of the upcoming programs:

— July 1 Bubble Trouble with Jeff Boyer; kick off the summer with the craziest, most creative bubble show around. Mixing comedy, music and interactive bubble-magic, Jeff engages and delights audiences of all ages;

— July 7 Chickens around the World Traveling Farm; learn about some interesting chickens from different parts of the world.  For kids in kindergarten to grade four;

— July 9 Tween Creativity Lab; art that bubbles, pops and glows. For kids in grade four to six;

— July 10 Summertots; join Miss Amy for an early literacy program that emphasizes sharing books, flannel board stories, music, rhymes and playtime together. This program is for newborns to 36 months;

Reading is always a big part of SRP and prizes will be awarded for top readers. The library will be the place to be this summer and you don’t want to miss out.

Read It Forward

Free copies of the suspenseful adventure The Paladin Prophecy by Mark Frost have been released in Voorheesville for teens. If you get one, read it, comment on it, and pass it on to another teen. Details are inside the paperbacks. You can also read The Paladin Prophecy on one of the YA Nooks, or in hardcover from the library, or listen to the audiobook. All readers should respond to our quick online survey for a chance to win the second book in the series, Alliance. If you need help passing a copy forward, drop it off at the library.

Come one, come all

Join us for our annual ice cream social on Thursday, June 26, at 6:30 p.m. We will say good-bye to the school year and say hello to summer with make your own sundaes, generously donated by Stewarts. We will have book lists for summer reading suggestions, and you can sign up for the Summer Reading Program. NYS Assemblywoman Patricia A. Fahy will be in attendance, so be sure to stop by, have some delicious Stewart’s ice cream and enjoy a lovely evening.

Summer concert series

Save the date. On Monday, July 9, at 7 p.m., stop by for a relaxing evening at the library. Bring a blanket or use our chairs and kick back to enjoy The Red Haired Strangers in a free concert brought to you by the Friends of the Library.
