For teens entering grade seven and up, wishing to earn community service at the Voorheesville Public Library this summer, there will be a mandatory orientation on Friday, June 12, at 4:30 p.m. Jobs include helping prepare crafts, working with younger children during programs, and some computer tasks. Fill out a volunteer form, available on the teen page of our website, prior to this mandatory volunteer orientation. Teens should also bring their summer calendars so they know which dates they are available to volunteer. For more information, please contact Debbie Sternklar at the library, or e-mail .

Saturday study hall

We have open study hall; June 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Do you need a quiet place to work? Need a space for your study group to meet? Come to the library. The community room is open and set up for quiet work. Individuals and small groups welcome. Drop in during regular hours.

Alzheimers Disease:

Early Detection Matters

Join us on Monday, June 8, at 6:30 p.m., when Erica Salamida, program manager from the Northeastern New York Alzheimer’s Association, will discuss the warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease.

If you or someone you know is experiencing memory loss or behavioral changes, its time to learn the facts. Early detection is the key to improving quality of life for anyone affected by memory impairment. This interactive workshop will present the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease where myth will be separated from fact. Commonly held fears about the disease will be addressed. Hear from people who have the disease and find out how to recognize the signs in yourself and others. Please register.

Summer reading program

We’re planning a super summer reading program for all ages. This year’s theme is “Every Hero Has a Story!” Reader registration opens online on June 1. Voorheesville Elementary School students will be able to create their accounts during library time in school. With our new reader reward system, all participants who record their reading will receive prizes at the end of the program, and also earn tickets for grand prize drawings.

Check the library’s online calendar to see all of the fun events we have scheduled. Registration is required for some of these activities and will begin on June 1. You can register right through the online calendar, by phone or using e-mail. We’ll be kicking off the fun with our annual ice cream social on Thursday, June 25, at 6:30 p.m. The library is excited to keep our community’s young people reading and learning through the summer, we hope to see you here.
