Voorheesville Library Notes for Monday, May 4, 2015

Students needing community service credit can volunteer at the Voorheesville Public Library. Some student volunteer jobs include helping prepare crafts, working with younger kids during programs, dusting and straightening shelves, removing book labels, sorting/alphabetizing donations and some computer tasks. Give us a call at 765-2791 and ask for Mrs. Sternklar. Bring your school form to the scheduled appointment and we’ll get you started.

Saturday study hall

Do you need a quiet place to work? Need a space for your study group to meet? Come to the library. The community room is open and set up for quiet work on May 2 and 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Individuals and small groups are welcome or drop in during regular hours.

Mark Twain 100 years later

On Thursday, May 7, at 7 p.m., Dave Ehlert, performer and impersonator from Branson, Mo., will be bringing to life the American literary icon, Mark Twain. Twain’s life story will be retold through period costume, impersonation, and his famous quotes with a strong emphasis on the importance of literacy.

Twain is one of America’s greatest authors of the 19th Century and his books are part of American history. Don’t miss out on this fun-filled and educational evening. This program is for middle school through adult ages.

Beginning beaded jewelry

On Tuesday, May 19, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., you can learn easy beading techniques for making simple necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Want to move beyond basic bead stringing? We’ll demonstrate wire looping, and then you can give it a try. This program is for adults and teens ages 14 and up. Please register and there will be a small materials fee.

Meet the author

Come in on Sunday, May 17, at 11:30 a.m., for a pancake breakfast and meet local author Jean Marotta. She is the author of Momma Jean’s Kitchen, and will be talking about writing, publishing, and cooking. This program is open to all. Please register.
