Voorheesville Library Notes for Friday, March 18, 2016

Students in grades three through seven are invited to enjoy free-building time with other Lego-maniacs on Wednesday, March 23, at 2 p.m., at the Voorheesville Public Library. Bring a model from home to show off, if you'd like; library Legos to share and club-member creations will be kept separate. You can also take a turn on the Wii playing Lego video games, or use the iPad to make your own stop-motion movie. Registration is requested.

Lego Junior maker event

Students in kindergarten through grade two will appreciate this Lego program on Thursday, March 24, at 10:30 a.m. They are encouraged to make, tinker, build and explore at the library. Parents and caregivers will join in this creative journey meant to foster creativity and encourage storytelling. Registration is requested.

Cooking with machines

What can you cook for yourself with a waffle maker, microwave, or blender? On Thursday, March 24, at 6:30 p.m., we’ll go beyond plain waffles and frozen dinners, so come hungry! Bring your own mug. Students in grades six and up are requested to register online.

Beginning beaded jewelry

Adults and teens ages 14 and up are invited to learn easy beading techniques for making simple necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. This monthly program is perfect for anyone, from beginners to experts. Please register for the next class, on March 29, at 5:30 p.m. There will be a small materials fee, depending on which project(s) you choose.

Author visit

We are thrilled to have critically acclaimed children's book author and illustrator, Nina Crews, visit us on April 9. She uses photographs and photo collages to create energetic stories about young children. Join us to hear Ms. Crews talk about her books and her art. The children will have the opportunity to create their own bookmarks using her collage technique. The program will begin at 3:30 p.m., and is for children ages 4 to grade four, and their families. Please register.

Annual meeting

The Friends of the Library will hold their annual evening meeting on March 21, at 7 p.m. They will be honoring FOL volunteers with a reception followed by a short business meeting.

Hallway and display case artists

This month, the library is happy to welcome two local photographers who will be sharing the spotlight as artist of the month. Roger Stump will be displaying his photographs in the main gallery hallway, and Anthony Giminani will be displaying his photographs in the display case. Thanks to both artists for sharing their work with the community. Please be sure to stop in to enjoy these displays, which will run until the end of April.

Registration for all programs can be done at the library, by phone at 765-2791 or online, at www.voorheesvillelibrary.org/click on the event calendar.
