Voorheesville Library Notes for Friday, March 4, 2016

Our photo albums, letters, and paper documents are a vital link to the past. Personal information we create today has the same value. The only difference is that much of it is now digital.

Chances are that you want to keep some digital photos, e-mail and other files so that you — and your family — can look at them in the future. But preserving digital information is a new concept with which most people have little experience.

On Saturday, March 5, at 10 a.m., you  are invited to the Voorheesville Public Library to learn some tips to help make your personal “born digital” information last. Registration is suggested.

Coloring book club

Join us on Wednesday, March 16, at 6 p.m., for our adult coloring book club. Each month we will provide different coloring sheets with multiple pages to choose from as well as a large selection of colored pencils, markers, and crayons.

The library community room will provide a welcoming environment with soothing music to help you relax and enjoy some you time. Supplies will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own.  Please register.

STEAM story time

On March 19, at 10:15 a.m., children ages 2 through 5 can make a splash and go with the flow, while they are discovering water. Following a short story time, parents and children will explore and play at different stations using hands on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math, building not only their reading skills but also their STEAM skills, too. Stations will include sink and float, PlayDoh boats, and water art.

Tween Lego Club

Students in grades three through seven are invited to enjoy free-building time with other Lego-maniacs on Wednesday, March 23, at 2 p.m. Bring a model from home to show off, if you'd like; library Lego to share and club-member creations will be kept separate.

You can also take a turn on the Wii playing Lego video games, or use the iPad to make your own stop-motion movie.  Registration is suggested.

Lego junior maker event

Students in kindergarten through second grade will appreciate this Lego program on Thursday, March 24, at 10:30 a.m. They are encouraged to make, tinker, build, and explore at the library.  Parents and caregivers will join in this creative journey meant to foster creativity and encourage storytelling. Registration is requested.

Trustee position available

Nominating petitions are available for the position of trustee for the library board to fill the vacancy caused by the expiration of the term of Bryan Richmond  The election will be held on Tuesday, May 17, and the candidate elected will serve a five-year term, beginning July 1, 2016.  Petitions may be obtained in the library and must be returned by 5 p.m., on Monday, April 18, with a minimum of 25 signatures. Candidates must be  qualified voters of the Voorheesville Central School District.
