Middleburgh Library Notes for Friday, March 25, 2016

You can win  a Perception Sound 9.5 Kayak with paddle (on display in the library) in the Middleburgh Library Kayak Raffle.  Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased at the library, from library board members, or at the NBT Bank.  The winner will be drawn on April 23, at the Middleburgh Sloughter Kayak/Canoe Regatta Finish Line.

Drop-in storytime

Get ready to move on March 29 at 10:45 a.m. in this interactive storytime designed especially for children up to age 5 and their caregivers. We'll read books, sing songs, recite fingerplays, dance, and watch a short movie based on a weekly theme. No registration is required.

Mahjong Mania

Men and women are invited to come learn the game of Mahjong, March 29 at 1 p.m..  No experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and have fun.  No registration is necessary.

Insight Meditation

Join us for a simple group Zazen meditation practice, March 29 at 5:15 p.m.  All are welcome.  No registration is required.

Chair Yoga

Join the group with Vicki DeGroff in the Community Room at 9 a.m. on March 30. The suggested donation is $5.

Discovery Wednesdays

Come watch a preschool film, "Stellaluna" (rated G, 41 minutes), on March 30 at 11 a.m. When the adorable fruit bat Stellaluna is separated from her mother, she is adopted by a family of birds, but soon finds that she just can't fit in. Her playmates like to sleep at night; she wants to fly. They whistle and sing; she doesn't even have a beak. But just when it seems like she'll always be an outsider, Stellaluna makes an amazing discovery. Now she'll learn to cherish the things that make her different from everyone else. And she'll see that an open mind and an open heart can lead to the greatest gift of all.  No registration is required.

Wednesday Matinee

In this year’s “Spotlight” (rated R), the Boston Globe's tenacious Spotlight team of reporters delves into allegations of abuse in the Catholic Church, and their year-long investigation uncovers a decades-long cover-up at the highest levels of Boston's religious, legal, and government establishment, touching off a wave of revelations around the world.  No registration is required and popcorn is free.

Tai Chi

Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing for Tai Chi for beginners on March 31 at 10 a.m.  Registration is suggested. At 11 a.m., the group will meet for Advanced Tai Chi (attendees must have taken beginning Tai Chi.

Sushi Workshop for Homeschoolers

Come learn how to make vegetarian Maki sushi on March 31 at 1 p.m. This program will consist of learning how to hand roll a sushi roll, the proper technique of using chopsticks, and having lots of fun.

This program is suitable for homeschooled children ages 6 and up.  Young children may need the help of a parent or caregiver. Younger sibling helpers are welcome.  Registration is required.  Please note: This program is a rescheduled program from February.

Knitting Circle

On March 31 at 7 p.m., these friendly ladies (men are welcome, but we haven't seen any yet!) knit and crochet, embroider and quilt, and more. You can learn a new skill here or share your own special talents with others, or just craft in the company of friends. Drop in anytime. No registration is required.
