Guilderland Library Notes for Friday, April 3, 2015

The next Li’l Lego Club at the Guilderland Public Library for children in kindergarten through grade two will be held on Thursday, April 2, at 3:30 p.m.

Meet in the storyhour room and use your imagination for some creative play with friends. Bring your own bricks or create with ours. No registration is necessary.

The sixth big hero

The First Friday Family Film showing at 7 p.m., on April 3, is all about the special bond that develops between plus-sized inflatable robot Baymax, and his prodigy Hiro Hamada, who team up with a group of friends to form a band of high-tech heroes.

The free popcorn is decidedly low-tech, but it’s good so it’s easy for kids to sit and enjoy this 102-minute long PG feature.

Easter holiday

The library will be closed Easter Sunday, April 5. While the library may be closed, the library website at www.guilpl.org  — featuring the new, user-friendly catalog search feature — is always open.

Make-It Mondays

Mondays bringin’ you down? Make your way out of the funk by dropping in to the library’s storyhour room at 6 p.m., on April 6, and make a fun craft to take home.

This is a great activity for kids and families. This program is for kids in pre-kindergarten through grade two. No registration required; just make the scene!

Read to your furry friends

Guess who’s back, again and again? Our very special furry friends, and they’re looking forward to children in kindergarten through grade three reading to them. There are two sessions: One is on Tuesday, April 7, starting at 6:30 p.m., and the other is on Thursday, April 9, also starting at 6:30 p.m.

Reading to a furry friend is a great way for beginning readers to reinforce their reading skills, gain confidence in their abilities, and have fun.

The way we used to be

Many scenes in this Local Connections Film — showing at 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, April 7 —were shot in Ballston Spa and at Union College in Schenectady, and highlights the way we were perceiving Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford back then.

Popcorn will be served. The movie runs 118 minutes, and is rated PG.

Minecraft for parents

Parents: Are your kids addicted to Minecraft? More to the point, do you know what Minecraft is?  Find out at one of two sessions at 6 and  7 p.m., on Wednesday, April 8, at GPL.

You’ll learn what all the excitement is about, what your kids are doing, and what they’re making. You’ll learn about Minecraft from the experts, the teens who play it.

Note: This program is for parents only. Registration is required, so please call 456-2400, ext. 2.

Every day is Earth Day

While Thursday, April 9, is not Earth Day, it is coming soon. So join us that Thursday at 11 a.m. so that children ages four through seven can celebrate our planet by taking part in Earth Day crafts, a game, and by learning and sharing ideas for keeping our world clean and green.

Registration is required, and parents are encouraged to stay for the duration of the program.

Recipes from Around the World

On Thursday April 9, at 2 p.m., kids can help celebrate the cuisine of Mexico at this Recipes from Around the World hands-on class. Children will prepare recipes to share with the class and take home to enjoy with their families. Please make a reservation for this event by calling 456-2400, ext. 4.
